Humans: Our Unique Ability to Create and Problem Solve

    December 16, 2025 /

As humans, one of our unique traits is the ability to think, problem-solve, talk, create, and adapt to different environments. Recognizing this can inspire people to value their own unique creative potential and feel confident in their innate abilities. As more technology tools have entered our lives, created by humans themselves, they have also, in some ways, eliminated obstacles, allowing tasks to be done more quickly, such as using a calculator, a typewriter, a printing press, a wheel, and others. Appreciating these advancements can evoke pride in our collective progress. After reading and learning about Creativity and Writing with AI, I was concerned about our generation’s future. Generative AI is…

    Disconnect to Connect

    December 16, 2025 /

Connecting with nature, others, and myself My friend Mikey and I had reached the first overlook at the Mount Beacon Trail at 12:47 pm on December 23, 2020. It was a cloudy, chilly morning.  It was nine months into the COVID-19 global pandemic.  We were standing by the casino ruins at approximately 1000 ft above ground. I was overlooking the city of Beacon.  From that height, I could see grids of streets below. I saw what looked like miniature cars, small homes, churches, and businesses. It all seems so small.  The first thing that came to my mind was how small the city was compared to the mountain I was…

Sharing interesting roundtable on Art and AI

    December 15, 2025 /

Thought this article connected closely to the debates we’ve been having in class about AI and creativity. This short roundtable brings together eight scholars whose perspectives echo many of the questions we raised. And I have to say, seeing how dated the 2 year old AI-generated images look was wild.

    Digital Extension

    December 15, 2025 /

Digital extension is such a fascinating concept, because essentially, to the loved one, the person didn’t “die” or did they? I was very intrigued by the episode “Be Right Back” for many reasons. For starters, they say when we lose someone, we gain a life; a positive approach that Martha could have taken when she found out she was pregnant.  Secondly, we see the different stages of AI being used (text, voice, body). Lastly, the a lack of grieving being done here.  In a similar note, while watching this episode, I was reminded of the show Upload on Amazon Prime. It has a similar concept, with a different approach. It is the norm for a person to not pass, instead be “uploaded”. When they upload, they are given all of their memory; essentially, they…

    Writing Instructors vs AI

    December 4, 2025 /

As mentioned at the end of this week’s class, the topic of an AI policy sprang up again. I kept thinking about the AI policies from my former colleagues that I shared during the Writing and AI class. Writing instructors, at least from my experience, approach LLMs with more resistance. Some instructors even make it a point to remove all technology in the classroom and revert to the good ol’ blue book. I tried to make a joke about blue books to my former undergraduate students, and, to my surprise, not a single student understood what I was talking about. Though, according to them, the Scantron is still alive and…
